Sunday Selections ... Nuytsia floribunda

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim or Frogspondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through Life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.

Recently hubby and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary, we went to the movies and then for a drive to take some photos of the Christmas trees (Nuytsia floribunda) that were flowering in a Regional Park down near hubby's work, then we drove on and had fish and chips for tea. All in all a lovely day (off work too).

So here are my photos of the stunning Nuystia flowering after a very hot and large wild fire burnt through this section of bush last summer. You can still see the black on the tree, but it certainly didn't kill this hardy tree (which is a hemiparasitic). It's amazing the colour variance in the flowers, largely due to the length they have been out I think. As you can see, some parts are still to flower.  Oh and I took all these photos from the comfort of the car, my camera has amazing zoom, while hubby climbed the fence for his shots and then wasn't happy with them. Always the way!!

Hope you enjoy, seeing these trees bursting into flower always reminds me that Christmas is not far away.

Thanks for popping by, have a happy Sunday xxx

  1. What an absolute stunner - and not one I know.
I am always pleased to see how well so many of our natives come back after fires. A sad necessity though.
Congratulations on a significant aniversary - and I love the way you celebrated.

  2. That's quite pretty, I haven't seen one before, are they only in WA?
In that last photo and the first two, the flowers look like 'cheese things', those oily crunchy cheesy snacks that taste so yummy it's hard not to eat the whole packet at once. Which is why I don't buy them anymore.
    Happy Anniversary!

  3. Pop and I love to see the Christmas trees come into bloom each year. I remember when Mary Rockliff was over here from England and we took her to see the really giant Christmas tree in bloom near I think the South Perth Yacht Club. She said she'd not seen anything so beautiful. They truly are glorious. By the way, which regional park are they in? Somewhere in Cockburn obviously.
Thanks for sharing such lovely photos with us and I was glad you both had such a wonderfully happy day on the 12th. xxx

    1. On Gibbs Rd in the Jandakot Regional Park Mum, B drives that way to work and has been admiring them, they are really dark orange this year, so off we went to take photos. We did indeed have a lovely day on the 12th, not a lot of money spent, but quality time together which is what it is all about. xxx
