Blog This Challenge 47 - Water

Water - a photographic challenge from Blog This.

Water - so many types of water, so rather than give you one I am giving you a range of my interpretation of water.

If you would like to vote for me - voting starts on 10th June and finishes 15th June.

The Place You Love To Visit - Do You Have One Too?

Do you have place you love to visit? A place that is really special? Somewhere that replenishes your soul? I do.

I don't know why exactly that I am drawn to this place, but I know that whenever I am down in Western Australia's South West, if I am close I have to visit. I especially love to visit when it is close to sunset - to spend the time just sitting and being, watching the sun set over the sea.

But it more than just the setting sun that draws me to this place - it is almost a spiritual connection. The water here is never still, the energy is tangible and yet soothing. To sit and listen to the waves, to immerse yourself in the landscape - for me it is a truly a wonderful thing.

The small bay is rocky with a small area of beach - more often than not covered with flotsam and jetsam from the ocean. If you sit on the beach there is the illusion that the horizon and the oncoming waves are higher than you, that you are nestled between the hills behind and the ocean in front.

And so hubby and I find ourselves here whenever we are visiting the Margaret River Region. We drive to Augusta, we buy fish and chips and we head out to the Water Wheel. We eat, we walk, we sit, we watch the sunset and then we drive away always feeling relaxed, always feeling refreshed, always smiling.

And so, here are a series of photos taken on one visit to my favourite place, maybe one day you will visit too and enjoy it as much as I do.

The Water Wheel is now encrusted with limestone, it was built in the 1800s and was used to supply water to the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's cottages. It was also used in the construction of the lighthouse. The water still runs from the natural spring but is only used to keep the wooden and the wheel wet so it doesn't split and splinter. The lighthouse sits on the tip of Cape Leeuwin, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet, a place where many a ship came to grief on the reefs and rocks.

Electric Blue - Colours of Friday - on A Sunny Winter's Day

Melissa over at Suger Coat It hosts Colours of Friday - Hi Mel - this Friday was Electric Blue - now my favourite colour is blue, normally a more aqua blue but who can't get buzzed by the Electric Blue that surrounds us.

As I was scrolling through iPhoto today looking for photos for another post, I came across my own Electric Blue - taken in 2009 at AqWA - Perth's aquarium.

So here on a beautiful blue, sunny Winter's Sunday (yes I know I am 2 days late) is my take on Electric Blue Colours of Friday.

What Lives In Your Purse/Wallet

In my purse there are numerous plastic cards - so many I have trouble fitting them all in - credit cards, health insurance/medicare cards, store loyalty cards, bank debit cards, driver's licence, frequent flyer card. Then there are numerous store receipts I have yet to take out and give to my accountant (read hubby). I also have many appointment cards - hairdresser, beautician x 2, massage, doctors, etc. There are business cards - mine to give out and some others given to me. I have some cash, some coins and the cute passport photo of my little grand-daughter from when we went to Singapore.

But the one thing that I am proud to have in my wallet is this

That's right I have chosen to be an organ donor. It is a choice I made about 20 odd years ago. I am passionate about having the chance to save or change another person's life if at all possible when I die. I have spoken to my family about my choice as ultimately they will be asked to approve my choice if the circumstances of my death allow a donation. They better say yes as otherwise I will come back and haunt them. Do you have one of this life-saving/life-changing cards in your wallet, have you made the choice.

I once saw a sticker that said -

Please Don't Take Your Kidneys To Heaven - God Knows We Need Them Here.

What more can be said. Australia needs more donors. I know it is horrible to think that you or someone you love may be taken too soon in tragic circumstances, but the reality is that it happens, I just want my family to know that it is okay to say yes if they are ever asked the question.

The Hard Decision

I have decided to limit my time spent in front of the computer when at home. On average I spend between 8 to 9 hours in front of a computer at work. I found that when I came home I logged on and spent another 3-4 hours in front of the computer at home each night and a fair amount of each day and night on the weekends - blogging (writing mine and reading and commenting on others), FaceBook, private emails etc.

I have become jaded, I have lost touch with my books and other things I love to do. So for the month of June I am limiting myself to blogging only on the weekends (Friday nights-Sunday nights) and just one other day during the week. That doesn't mean I won't be coming over to visit you, just that it won't be a daily visit. I hope you don't mind as I really do love you all, but my sanity and eyes as well as brain and heart need a break. If I have time I will schedule some posts as I really do like to blog but I am giving myself a break from the need to blog. Wish me luck as I think I am an addict.
