I Can't Change Even If I Wanted To ...

Today I was watching Ellen for a few minutes while eating lunch before going to physio.

This is what I saw, this is what I heard, this is what spoke to me ... so Tony Abbott and Julia Gillard - it's about time you really listened, as the mother of four beautiful adult children, two of whom are gay, they deserve to marry if they choose to, just like my other two children ...

I can't change even if I wanted to ... listen to that beautiful voice, really listen  ... my love, my love, she keeps me warm

Don't we all deserve that??

  2. I am with you many thousands of percent on this issue. It is quite simply, the business of the individuals, and in our secular society we have no right to make one relationship acceptable, and ignore the loving and caring that happens in same sex relationships. This issue makes me sad and angry in equal measure. I would like to see our politicians (on both sides of the divide) allow conscience votes and justify why same sex relationships are not recognised. No, no do not resort to bringing God into it. We are a secular nation.

    1. It seems so easy to fix and yet to politicians there seems to be a sticking point, I am not quite sure what they are frightened about, after all it is just equality for everyone in my eyes. I want nothing more than to have all of my children offered the same opportunities for happiness and love, as I am sure most parents do.

  3. When will they understand love is love no matter what label you try and put on it? We should all be afforded equal rights to marry the one who makes our heart sing x

  4. Sorry, as is often the case with modern music I couldn't make out the words but from what you have written I can imagine what they were saying or singing about. I think if two people are genuinely in love they should be allowed to enjoy that love without politicians interfering. About marriage I have no opinion because in many ways I am not sure I believe in any type of marriage as so many of them these days end in disaster. I am not sure if MOH and I would have bothered getting married if I, at the time, did not have two young children and we felt we had to be 'respectable' for their sake. Married or not I know that he and I would still love each other just as much as we do after more than 45 years. If heterosexuals can have a de facto relationship then why can't gay people have their relationships treated the same way legally and politically? Definitely as EC says God should not be brought into the argument in any shape or form.

    1. It is all about choice isn't it, fair choice for all ... and while de facto relationships might be fine for some, marriage is the choice for others. To not have the choice is wrong, no matter what your final choice is.

Even though you might not have chosen marriage if not for your children, you still made a great choice in MOH, and being together 45 years on proves that. xxx

  5. Leave it to Ellen to have a group like this on! Very cool. It's definitely a huge issue in the US too, as I'm sure you're aware. I definitely have grave concern about the outcome of our presidential election on Nov. 6. The results of the election can either further the opportunity for equal rights, or it can 'course correct' and set us back 50+ years. The latter is both a scary and devastating thought.

    1. I love catching bits of Ellen on TV, not that I get to very often as she is day time TV and I am normally at work. Catching this performance was quite emotional for me, hence my reason to share.

It seems that it is a huge issue everywhere and I would love Australia to the the country that made a stand and recognised all relationships, I'm just not sure that any politician has the balls to make it happen.

I can only say that Mitt Romney scares the crap our of me - I shut my eyes and listen to him and he sounds so much like George W that it is freaky. Please America don't go backwards.

  6. Hopefully the President will be re-elected as I feel the people in the US will get a much better deal from him than from that other bloke (how could I forget his name? Guess he is just so unforgettable!! Oh no Romney? Is that right?

  7. So true. So simple and so true. I'm already loving the change we're seeing in America now Obama has been re-elected, with more and more states embracing gay marriage. We need to too. x
