Prettiness - I want some

I desire some beautiful delicate porcelain tea cups, maybe with roses or violets painted on them, with a gold edge and maybe some scalloping. I want to drink my tea from a proper tea cup.

Many years ago I had some and I gave them away when we all moved to mugs (oh and the kids were little and likely to break them) ... now I want some again. I can feel some shopping coming on.

  1. Go on - treat yourself. I don't know if you have any good antique stores near you, but I've found some lovely tea cups and saucers (with the cake plate!) for under $20! Tea really does taste nicer in china - and you deserve it x

  2. Kakka - do you still have my e-mail? Can you send me a postal address?

My mum had so many beautiful cups and saucers and I would love to send one to a dear friend who would treasure it.

  3. Awww Madmother that's gorgeous of you xx

Kakka, you go for it. There's nothing quite like a pretty fine china tea cup, so much nicer than everyday thick-feeling mugs (which are more practical, granted, but not nearly as whimsical).

  4. Oh MM, you have bought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for offering to share one of your precious Mum's teacups with me. I certainly do have your email address and will pop you a line. You have such a beautiful heart. xxx

  5. So do you my friend. And it makes me so happy to find a home for one with someone who will love it.

Thank you for being in my life - it makes the journey so much more bearable to have you with me. xx

  6. When my folks got married a china cup and saucer was considered an acceptable wedding gift. When I got married they were an acceptable shower gift. Now you can't give them away and the flea markets are full of them for next to nothing. You should have no trouble picking up a nice selection for very little money. If you weren't so far away I would ship you 20 or so sets.
