Memories on Monday - Funny Stories

Do you have any stories about family members that pop back into your memory when you do something or go somewhere?

I remember my Mum telling me about my Aunty Min and her spider adventure and every now and then when I put on my winter dressing gown, that has been hanging behind the door, the story pops into my head.

The story goes, one winter's morning my Aunty Min got up and put on her dressing gown that had been hanging behind the door. Shortly after leaving the bedroom, Min felt a tickle in her armpit and so she rubbed it, as you do, thinking she must have a loose thread or something.

A little while later, it was still tickling her, so she decided to take the dressing gown off and fix the said loose thread. Yep, you guessed it - it wasn't a loose thread but a huntsman spider, all cosy and a little cross that his/her nice warm dark house was now being worn by a woman.

I don't believe the spider bit my Aunt and I hope she didn't kill the spider. But often when I get my dressing gown down and pop it on suddenly I think - oops should have checked for spiders.

  1. You have just made my mouth form the most enormous O. Good grief, I don't think I'd ever recover from such an experience!

  2. Just sitting here making involuntary repetitive (and slightly panicked) groaning sounds now. I shake my towel with vigor before I use it. Now I'll have to resolve to doing the same for my clothing!

  3. I am not phobic about spiders even, but my heart is beating a little extra hard, now at the thought.......

  4. That happens to me all the time...doing something mundane, being reminded of something from the past.
But I have a story so similar to yours! When I was a teenager I pulled my towel down from over the shower wall after my shower and felt something scratchy like sticky tape on my back (why I thought sticky tape I do not know), when I had a look...yep...you guessed it...it was a big huntsman. I think I screamed and I always checked my towel for a very very long time after that!

  6. Read this a while back but today recalled another family spider story from long ago.
Grandma G. used to keep her shoes in a neat line under her wardrobe and one day as she went to put on a pair of shoes she noticed something glinting in the sunlight that was coming into her room.
She took the shoe outside only to discover that a redback spider had made her name in that shoe!!
It took me years after that not to check my shoes if I'd left them where perhaps an uninvited guest may have taken up residence.

  7. The redback may also have made her 'name' in the shoe but I of course meant she had made her 'home there.
As kakka says we must always be excused typos we sometimes make.
